UTHATHU Feather-Meal Extender

Uthathu - Traditional Feather-Meal Extenders - The Products

Raw Feathers

Product Concept
My idea is a new product called “Uthathu Feather-Meal Extenders,” which repurposes chicken feathers to strengthen concrete mixes and as compost extenders. This product utilizes chicken feathers in two key ways: enhancing the durability of concrete and enriching soil as compost.

I am currently seeking partnerships with abattoirs and poultry houses to supply feathers, which will help me increase production and meet market demand.

The product comes in two variants:
– Concrete Mix (5kg)
– Compost Extender (5kg)

I have conducted numerous trials on campus, and the results show that the concrete mix is very strong. Agribiotech, which has a small abattoir, has already been supplying me with feathers for testing.

Motivation
The main motivation behind this product is the significant benefits of repurposing chicken feathers to strengthen concrete mixes in construction materials and as compost extenders. These compost extenders help improve soil structure, promoting healthier plant growth.

I noticed a gap in the market, particularly in rural areas where people struggle to afford expensive building materials. My innovative product offers a more affordable solution, providing a strong and lightweight alternative at a lower price.

Uthathu is owned by Nokwanda Msweli, and the business is currently not registered.

We are currently working with Ingwe cooperative located at AgriBIoTech.
